Granger Stage Station in Granger, Wyoming, grew from an early settlement established around 1856 at the confluence of Hams Fork and Blacks Fork of the Green River, where a ferry crossed Hams Fork. It served as a Pony Express station in 1860 and 1861 and from 1862 as South Bend Station on the Overland Trail, at a key junction where the east-west Overland Trail met the Oregon Trail from the north. The surviving one-story stone station, with two interior rooms, is one of Wyoming’s oldest trail-era buildings and reflects the movement of mail, travelers, and commerce across the West before the railroad supplanted the route in 1868.
