White Top Mountain is a 7,607-foot summit in eastern California's Cottonwood Mountains, the northern extension of the Panamint Range, within Death Valley National Park. Rising about 7,100 feet above the valley floor in just 7.5 miles, it is a striking example of the park's extreme relief and varied topography. Runoff from its slopes drains toward Death Valley through Dry Bone Canyon. The mountain is made of Ordovician limestone, evidence of ancient marine environments far different from today's Mojave Desert. Its high elevation creates a cold desert climate, contrasting with the hot desert conditions of the lower valleys.
