Gates College in Neligh, Nebraska was represented by the Class of 1890, and in 1925, with the approval of Gates alumni and by vote of the trustees of Doane College, Gates College was adopted by and perpetuated in Doane College. In 1955, alumni of Gates College moved a boulder from the Gates campus to the campus of Doane College as a memorial to Gates College and to G.A. Gregory, a Doane alumnus from the Class of 1882 who was for twelve years a beloved teacher and administrator of Gates College and also a trustee of Doane College. The first graduating class of Gates College in 1890 was Anna Clegg, Darley R. Collings, Herbert E. Gregory, Orvilla Smith, and Robin L. Warner.
