Grandma Prisbrey’s Bottle Village in Simi Valley, California, is a rare American folk art environment created by Tressa “Grandma” Prisbrey from discarded bottles and other castoff materials from the 1950s into the 1970s. What began as a place to house her pencil collection became a village-like landscape of 16 buildings and structures, shrines, sculptures, walkways, and personal memorial spaces shaped by her belief that everything has a purpose. Widely understood as a deeply personal work of shelter, grief, hospitality, and invention, it later suffered severe earthquake damage but remains historically significant and the focus of ongoing preservation.
