Kimbell House was built circa 1848 by Isham Kimbell on Lower Commerce Street. The Woodson family gave it to the city, and in 1977 the Jackson Historical Commission, successors to the Jackson Bi-Centennial Committee, moved it to this site with a grant from the M. W. Smith, Jr. Foundation. It was restored with funds from public subscription, local civic organizations, and the City of Jackson.
