Captain Dean Parks is remembered with love for honoring the nation, the freedoms cherished in it, and the men and women who serve to protect those freedoms, and for teaching hundreds of local youth how to fish. The flagpole associated with his memory was originally erected in 1986 by the Pilot Club of Palm Harbor and was re-established in fall 2015 as Eagle Scout Project of Alex John Thurin of Troop 434, Palm Harbor, West Central Florida Council, with support from local individuals, clubs, businesses, and organizations.
