Mount Ina Coolbrith rises on the eastern edge of Sierra Valley in Northern California near the Nevada border, within Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Formerly called Summit Peak, it was officially renamed in 1932 with support from the California State Legislature and the Western Pacific Railroad. The name honors Ina Coolbrith, who crossed nearby Beckwourth Pass at age 11 with a party led by James Beckwourth and later said she had been the first white child brought into California. The peak remains a prominent landmark above Sierra Valley, linking the present landscape to a well-known overland route and the distinctive story behind its name.
