African-descended men, women, and children were enslaved at Chippokes Plantation between 1689 and 1863. They included blacksmiths, field hands, nursemaids, cooks, gardeners, distillers, carpenters, masons, mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers, and their legacy endures.
