Cherryville, three and a half miles west, was first called Harris' Bluff and later Harrisburg. It was the first town to be incorporated in west Tennessee on Oct. 18, 1821. In 1833, electors for the surrounding four counties delivered their returns there. Its industries included a grist mill, tailor shop, and toll bridge, and a prehistoric mound is at the site.
