Delaware State Park in central Ohio is a year-round recreation area centered on Delaware Lake, offering camping, hiking, boating, hunting, fishing, swimming, and picnicking. The lake and dam on the Olentangy River were built from 1947 to 1951 under the Flood Control Act of 1938 to reduce flooding along the Olentangy, Scioto, and Ohio rivers, and the park was established in 1952. Its name recalls the Delaware, or Lenape, people, who were displaced westward into Ohio before many were forced farther on. The area also preserves traces of early settlement, including Fort Morrow and nearby archaeological sites.
