This working bake oven was constructed between 1840 and 1844 and was originally located in Rockfield, about 5 miles northwest of Freistadt, on Rockfield Rd. It was used for baking before popular wood-fired kitchen stoves were available. The oven was originally built inside a stone building that also contained a large cauldron used for laundry and during butchering, and the entire structure was attached to the house. This arrangement allowed a farmer's wife to do weekly baking and laundry at the same time, kept the cauldron close by for butchering, was practical in winter, and kept heat out of the main part of the house in summer. Helen Beuscher donated the bake oven in 1996, and it was moved brick by brick to this location and rebuilt. Baking demonstrations are held during the 4th of July celebration.
