Oakland Aviation Museum at North Field of Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport preserves more than 30 vintage and modern aircraft, along with engines, artifacts, and exhibits on notable aviators and aviation history. Founded by Ron Reuther in 1980 and opened to the public in 1986, it grew from a room in Hangar 5 into Building 621, the former Boeing School of Aeronautics. Its galleries connect Oakland and the Bay Area to broader developments in civilian and military flight, with displays on subjects including the Eighth Air Force, Jimmy Doolittle, naval aviation, the Tuskegee Airmen, women in aviation, and regional airlines. Public programs have included open cockpit days and a Summer Flight Academy.
