Founded in 1868, South Pass City was a great gold camp and part of Wyoming’s historical heritage. It was acquired for preservation on May 18, 1966, with funds raised by Wyoming’s 75th Anniversary Commission Inc., its advisers, county committees, and the people of Wyoming. Clifford P. Hansen was governor, Alice Mesick was chairman, Stephen Accola was secretary, and Kerm Kath was treasurer, with Edness Kimball Wilkins, Lewis Bath, James K. Harrower, and Earl A. Madsen also associated with the effort.
