Before incorporation in 1969, the South Bethany Association operated from Richard Hall's field office. After citizens voted for incorporation in 1969 and the town government was formed, the town office opened in May Felerski's house at 5 N. 2nd Street and remained there until 1978. The town hall meeting room is named in honor of May Felerski, the first town manager and a key individual in establishing town government. Elizabeth Hall donated land for the first town hall building, which was dedicated in 1978. Additions to town hall were constructed and completed in 1988, with staff and volunteers painting the new additions, and a temporary town hall facility was used during construction. The police department was located there from 2002 to 2008. Chief Joe Deloach, originally hired in 1979 and appointed Chief of Police in 1985, served as Chief until 2014. Chief Troy Crowson, originally hired in 1988, was appointed as Chief of Police in 2014. New town hall and separate police department buildings were completed in 2008, and their dedication and ribbon cutting were held in May 2008.
