High school education in Pound was first led at The Pound Christopher Gist High School, present-day Town Hall, by principals Luther Addington from 1924 to 1930 and O.M. Morris from 1930 to 1953. Pound High School opened on Nov. 30, 1953, with O.M. Morris as principal from 1953 to 1964, followed by Marvin B. Barker from 1964 to 1972, Danny C. Greear from 1972 to 1974, William Earl Baker from 1974 to 1989, Jerry Copley from 1989 to 1992, James E. Hurt from 1992 to 2001, Greg Mullins from 2001 to 2006, and Marcia Shortt from 2006 to 2011. Pound High School closed June 10, 2011, when the schools consolidated. Students from Pound were sent to Wise at J.J. Kelly High School, and later all high school students from Wise and Pound moved into the new Central High School built in Norton, VA. Pound High School served for a total of 57 years, 6 months and 21 days and was demolished from February to May 2022.
