Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, opened in 1978 as a 1,224-acre equestrian complex that combines a working horse farm, competition venue, educational park, and living museum devoted to humanity’s relationship with the horse. Open to the public, it features breed presentations, major horse shows, and the International Museum of the Horse, while the National Horse Center brings together more than 30 equine organizations. The park also became known as a home for retired champion horses and for its sculptures honoring famous racers. Its large indoor and outdoor arenas have made it a leading national and international venue, including for the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, the first held outside Europe.
