In 1964, Jack Massey and John Y. Brown bought Kentucky Fried Chicken corporation from Colonel Sanders. In 1969, KFC Corporation purchased the Colonel’s restaurant in Corbin and converted it into a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. In 1973, John R. Neal purchased the KFC in Corbin. Colonel Harland Sanders died on December 16, 1980. From 1988 to 1989, the Corbin restaurant was closed for restoration, and on September 19 JRN moved the restaurant to a temporary facility; restoration of Harland Sanders Café began in July. In 1990, Harland Sanders Café and Museum opened on September 9 for the centennial of the Colonel’s birth. Millions of visitors continue to make the pilgrimage.
