After the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862, Confederate forces gathered at Bryantsville on the 11th. The pursuing Union force did not attack but destroyed sources of food. Confederate General Bragg began moving his forces south on October 13. United States forces under General Buell pursued to this place, where he decided that further pursuit was not expedient. The Confederate forces then continued on, passing through Cumberland Gap from October 19 to 24.
