Fort Stevenson State Park in North Dakota sits on a peninsula of Lake Sakakawea about four miles south of Garrison. Covering 586 acres, it combines lakeside recreation with frontier-era history through its connection to Fort Stevenson, a nineteenth-century Missouri River fort. A partial reconstruction of the post stands in the park, while the original fort site lies about two miles southwest beneath Lake Sakakawea. The park’s character reflects both modern reservoir recreation and a landscape changed by inundation. It offers fishing, boating, camping, picnicking, non-motorized trails for hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing, an arboretum path, marinas, cabins, and a campground.
