Lake Sakakawea State Park is a 739-acre public recreation area on the southern shore of Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota, beside Garrison Dam and north of Pick City. Originally developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as Garrison Lake State Park, it passed to the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department in 1965 and was renamed after expansion in 1973. The park provides shoreline recreation, camping, cabins, a marina, and water access to one of the state’s largest reservoirs. Its trail system also includes the western terminus of the North Country National Scenic Trail, making it both a regional access point and a destination for long-distance outdoor travel.
