John Ellis Wool was honored as a gallant soldier, able commander, and patriotic citizen, and Sarah Moulton as his excellent and worthy consort. Wool was distinguished in the battles of Queenstown on October 13, 1813, Plattsburgh on September 11, 1814, Buena Vista on February 22 and 23, 1847, and at Norfolk on May 10, 1862. He was born on February 29, 1784, and died on November 10, 1863, while Sarah Moulton, his wife, was born on July 4, 1787, and died on May 7, 1873. Wool was commissioned in the United States Army as Captain on April 13, 1812, Major on October 13, 1812, Lieutenant Colonel on September 11, 1814, Colonel of Cavalry and Inspector General in 1816, Brigadier General in 1841, Brevet Major General in 1847, and Major General in 1862.
