As part of Stuart's Cavalry Division in the Army of Northern Virginia, Robertson's Brigade, including the 4th and 5th North Carolina Cavalry, crossed the Potomac at Williamsport, Maryland, on July 1 and marched to Greencastle, Pennsylvania. On July 2 it marched from Greencastle to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. On July 3 it marched to Cashtown and in the direction of Fairfield, guarding the flank of the army. On July 4 it held Jack's Mountain and picketed the left flank of the army. No report or details of losses were given.
