Winamac Fish and Wildlife Area, north of Winamac, Indiana, is a protected landscape managed for hunting and fishing while preserving 4,770 acres of oak forest and upland fields. Its history began in the 1930s, when the U.S. Department of the Interior acquired 6,454 acres of marginal farmland along the Tippecanoe River for a recreation demonstration area. In 1943 the property became part of Tippecanoe River State Park, and in 1959, 3,720 acres were transferred to the Division of Fish and Game. Today it supports wildlife viewing, ice fishing, hunting, trapping, shooting and archery ranges, and a dog training area.
