Nature
Hominy Hills is a low, gravel-capped range of hills and uplands in Monmouth County, New Jersey, extending between the Freehold area and Asbury Park across several townships, much of it within Naval Weapons Station Earle. Geologically, it is a cuesta on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, where the hard Cohansey Formation protects the softer Kirkwood Formation and creates a steep north-facing scarp and gentler southern slope. The range forms a local watershed divide between the Swimming River and the Manasquan and Shark Rivers. Its sandy, often wet soils helped preserve pine and oak forest habitat and support varied wildlife.
