After the Wesleyan Methodist congregation split in 1869, the chapel was sold and served many roles in the community until 1985. Later owners moved and added walls, floors, doors, and windows, and raised the roof to accommodate the stores, theaters, and other businesses that occupied the former chapel. The Johnson Opera House opened in 1890 along with two street-front stores. Between 1906 and 1917, the community used the building for roller-skating, athletic events, public meetings, movies, and theater productions. From 1917 to 1919, a movie theater and offices occupied the remodeled Regent Theater. In the early 1920s, the Regent Theater became the Ford garage and showroom. The Seneca Falls Laundromat operated there between 1961 and 1980. In 1971, seven studio and three one-bedroom apartments were added above the first-floor businesses.
