When women first demanded the elective franchise, or the right to vote, at the 1848 convention, they secured their own and the Wesleyan Chapel's place in history. In 1908, this community and descendants of the convention's participants proudly unveiled a bronze plaque on a side of the former Wesleyan Chapel. The 60th anniversary observance was held to rally support for the continuing woman suffrage campaign. The seventy-two year fight ended in 1920 when the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was ratified.
