In 1718 this area was settled by Jean-Baptiste Baudreau dit Graveline, who was born in 1671 in Montreal. He arrived with d'Iberville at Fort Maurepas aboard the Renommée on Jan. 8, 1700, and became a prominent colonist, adventurer, and merchant.
