Founded in 1959 in Golden, Colorado, the Colorado Railroad Museum preserves the story of the state’s railroad age, especially the narrow-gauge mountain lines that shaped transportation. Set beside the former Colorado and Southern Railway line, it includes a replica 1880s depot with exhibits on railroad history, photography, art, telegraphy, and model railroading, as well as the Robert W. Richardson Library with more than 10,000 rare historic photographs and railroad records. Its outdoor display tracks feature specialized trackwork and more than 100 historic locomotives and cars, including Denver and Rio Grande Western No. 683, making it a major center for understanding Colorado’s rail heritage.
