Lieutenant Colonel Alonzo Napier fell mortally wounded at this point while leading a charge of troops along the Lexington-Huntingdon Road. In the excitement of the deafening roar of cannon fire and the swift barrage of small arms fire, he leaped atop a split-rail fence, where he was fatally shot.
