The Flags of Freedom were raised in 2005 on Interstate 80, Exit 56, to honor veterans past, present, and future. Symbolizing the brave men and women who serve and have served the nation, the 30-foot by 60-foot flags fly proudly 365 days a year and represent the patriotism of the City of Princeton and Bureau County. In 2003, a committee of dedicated men and women formed to pay tribute to members of the Armed Forces for their service and sacrifices in defending freedom. After many months of hard work, donations, and fundraising, the project came to fruition on September 10th, 2005. In 2006, the Flags of Freedom was recognized by the State of Illinois with the Governors Hometown Award. Donations and sponsorships continue to keep the flags flying.
