The National Museum of Industrial History in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, occupies Bethlehem Steel’s 1913 Electric Repair Shop and interprets American industry through artifacts, archives, and exhibits on steel and iron, textiles, and propane gas, with special focus on Bethlehem’s industrial life. After years of legal and management delays, the project opened in August 2016 under a state-imposed deadline. Its collections include more than 200 artifacts, many tied to Bethlehem Steel and to industrial technology shown at the 1876 Centennial International Exposition. Exhibits connect large-scale manufacturing with workers’ experiences and inventions, preserving the legacy of a company that once ranked among the nation’s largest steelmakers and shipbuilders.
