Built around 1912 as a tenant sharecropper's house, this dwelling was originally a two-room cabin with three or four outbuildings that probably included a chicken house, a small barn, a well house, and a privy. Its front chimney was built of stones, bricks, and concrete blocks, reflecting the thrift common in sharecropper housing. In 1938, when an African American teacher came to teach at the Schoolhouse, the house became the Teacher's House and was enlarged by the addition of a third room. The older section has clapboard siding, while the addition has shiplap siding like Mr. Ira's gin office, and the building was whitewashed like many other farm structures. As a sharecropper's home, the front room served as both living room and bedroom, while the back room was the kitchen and also contained a bed; the added room became the teacher's bedroom. Nails for hanging a quilt remain in the front room ceiling, and nails in the walls covered by empty thread-spools were used for hanging clothes. Beside the house there was originally a swept yard with a vegetable patch. Of the sharecropper's outbuildings, only the rebuilt well house remains. The log corncrib beside the Teacher's House was moved there from another location to save it from destruction and is not historically associated with the surrounding buildings.
