Faith
Cumorah, a glacial drumlin in Manchester, New York, is closely tied to the origins of the Latter Day Saint movement. Joseph Smith said he found the golden plates there in a stone box after first visiting the hill in 1823 and returning annually until taking the record in 1827. The hill is also identified in the Book of Mormon as the place where Mormon hid Nephite records and Moroni later wrote of their destruction, though some later scholars argued for a different scriptural location. Acquired by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1920s, it remains a major site of memory, belief, and debate.
