The Eileen Hickey Irish Republican History Museum in Conway Mill on Belfast’s Falls Road opened in February 2007 after years of effort by Eileen Hickey, whose collecting and preservation of Irish republican material made the project possible. Located in a former linen mill built in 1842, it preserves artifacts tied to the Troubles and to earlier republican history, including material dating to the 1798 United Irishmen rebellion. Its holdings, donated by hundreds of people and families, include prisoners’ handicrafts, weapons, artwork, memorial items, and objects from Armagh Women’s Prison. It also serves as a library, interpretive centre, memorial space, and resource for historical research.
