Tofthagen Library and Museum in Lakota, North Dakota, is a historic civic building erected in 1927 and also known as the Lakota City Library. It is significant for both its public role and its architecture, which incorporates Prairie School design elements marked by low horizontal lines and tied to early 20th-century Midwestern architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 as the Tofthagen Library Museum, it also honors donor Amun M. Tofthagen, born in Hundorp, Norway, in 1858. The building thus connects Lakota’s civic life with the story of an immigrant benefactor.
