White Horse Hill National Game Preserve is a federal wildlife refuge and nature center on Devils Lake in North Dakota within the Spirit Lake Tribe reservation. Protected by the federal government since 1904, it began as Sullys Hill Park, later often called a national park, before Congress transferred it in 1931 to the Fish and Wildlife Service as a refuge where hunting is permitted while the Spirit Lake Tribe retains hunting and fishing rights. Covering 1,674 acres of prairie, marsh, and wooded hills, it supports bison, elk, deer, prairie dogs, and many birds and plants. In 2019 Congress renamed it White Horse Hill, affirming its Dakota cultural significance as well as its conservation role.
