The Medicine Lodge Stockade's northwest corner stood near this point, with its west line running south down the present alley to a corner near the site of Peoples Bank, and its south line following the south side of the Grand Hotel to the Courthouse and then north to the Presbyterian Church. Gates were maintained at the center of the north and south sides of the stockade. Inside were a livery barn and, near the center, a meat wagon from which everyone could help themselves. When the wagon was empty, two men were assigned to get a new supply. Buffalo meat was used most often, and corn was ground in a coffee grinder for bread.
