The Town of Sylvan Springs, Incorporated, held its first official meeting on July 13, 1957, after incorporation on May 22, 1957, with the Town Hall temporarily located in Harmon's Service Station. Its early officials were Oscar Hogan, James A. Jones, John Honeycutt, Aubry Early, and William T. Parkin as aldermen, and Ollis Hatcher as mayor. Through the vision of these citizens and those who followed, the town grew over the years, reaching a population of 1,465 at the 2000 census. Its development included establishment of a fire department in 1957, purchase of Town Hall property in 1961, construction of Town Hall in 1962, purchase of Sylvan Springs School from the Jefferson Co. Board of Education in 1975, conversion of the school into the Community Center in 1975, annexation of the West Grove Community in 1986, establishment of paramedic service in 1989, ribbon cutting for a walking track in 1990, purchase of property surrounding the Community Center for future growth from 2000 to 2005, construction of a playground and pavilion at the walking track in 2006, celebration of the town's 50th anniversary in 2007, and receipt of a federal grant in 2008 to remodel the Senior/Community Center.
