Gardens at Heather Farm is a 6-acre botanical garden in Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek, California, created through a local civic and gardening effort that began in 1967 and led to the association’s incorporation in 1971. Ground was broken in 1979, and the garden center building opened in 1983 with support from plant sales, donations, and grants. Philip and Ruth Bancroft were among those connected to the project and donated land for the park. Over several decades, the site grew into themed garden rooms, including native, children’s, sensory, riparian, rockery, and water-focused spaces, making it both a public garden and a community landscape shaped by volunteers.
