Christiansburg Institute was founded by Capt. Charles Schauffer, advised educationally by Booker T. Washington, and led by principals Charles A. Marshall, Edgar A. Long, Anna L. Long, Abraham M. Walker, H. Leslie Giles, and John F. Banks. It moved to this site in 1898.
