Steuben County Jail and Sheriff's Residence was built in 1877 southwest of the original 1837 log jail. Its architects were Gibbs and Moser, Gibbs served as superintendent of construction, Litzenberger and Foller of Fort Wayne were the contractor, the cost was $22,000, and it is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
