Thomas Lockhart was born in New Jersey in 1848, and by 1899 he was a well-known prospector and miner in Colorado. There he met A. D. Parker, who became his friend and began to grubstake him. In 1901 Lockhart moved to Tonopah and had his first success with the Tonopah Extension and the Unlucky 13 mines. In 1903 he came to Goldfield and was involved in the organization of the mining district. His great success came when he was able to acquire control over the Florence mine, Goldfield’s second most successful mine. His home became a noted one in the community. Lockhart and his family eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he died in 1914.
