Fort Davis

Established in November 1861 by Gen. Albert Pike of the C.S. Army, Fort Davis was named for Pres. Jefferson Davis, who had been stationed in the area when a Lieut. in the U.S. Army. The Confederates spent nearly one million dollars on this post. During the Second Federal Invasion, Fort Davis was destroyed on December 27, 1862, by U.S. troops including the Third Indian Home Guard Regt. under Col. W.A. Phillips.
