Cherokee County was established in 1836, Cherokee Indians in the area were relocated in 1838, and the Taff community was established in 1842 and named in honor of the Taff family that same year. Union and Confederate soldiers occupied the area in 1864. The Taff post office was established in 1886, the T.A.G. Railroad was established in 1891, the Taff Community school was established in 1894, and a Taff community doctor was present by 1911. T.A.G. Railroad scooter service was established in 1922.
