The monument is dedicated to the glory and honor of Montgomery County soldiers of the Confederate States of America for their courage and gallantry in defense of their homeland, and to their families and friends for their sacrifices and support. It places the Confederacy in the secession era from December 1860 through April 1861, naming South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, provisional Kentucky, and Missouri. A ground tablet records Montgomery County soldiers who died during the War Between the States from 1861 to 1865, with 146 names. It also includes a poem praising Southern soldiers who answered Richmond's call, fought in many places with Johnston, Jackson, and Lee, and gave their all for heritage and Southern rights, along with quotations attributed to Robert E. Lee and Pat Cleburne about war, duty, and dying bravely.
