The White Meeting House stood on this site from 1856 to 1927. Built of adobe just six years after the settlement of Springville, it was first used as a school. After the city was divided into four wards, the school was remodeled and expanded into a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse that became a cherished landmark used primarily for religious services. The addition of a stage and three upper seating galleries increased its capacity to 500, and it also hosted many social and community functions. Notable speakers, including Brigham Young and other presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints up to Heber J. Grant, addressed audiences from its pulpit. For more than 70 years, it stood as a monument to pioneer skill, craftsmanship, and good taste, underwent several major remodeling efforts, and was finally demolished in 1927.
