The cannon was donated by the Department of Defense in 1949. Developed by the US Army for use as a tank destroyer during WWII, these 3 inch M5 guns served as the vanguard for the US Army's elite tank destroying destroyer battalions from 1943–1945. This cannon stood in front of the post home at 4416 S. Western Avenue for over 60 years, was refurbished and placed in a new home in 2011, and was rededicated for all fallen comrades on May 27, 2012.
