La Purisima Mission was established on December 8, 1787, by Father Lasuen. It was damaged by earthquake in 1812, removed from the control of the Franciscans, and abandoned in 1834. The State and National Park Service were restoring major and many small structures and the water system. It is the only example in California of a complete mission and is a State Historical Monument.
