Brothers Robert Earl "Kool" Bell and Ronald "Khalis" Bell were born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1950 and 1951, respectively. They co-founded the soul and funk band Kool And The Gang, one of the genre's most celebrated groups. The band had more than 20 R&B and pop hits, including "Jungle Boogie," "Hollywood Swinging," "Ladies Night," "Get Down On It," and "Celebration." They are also among the most sampled artists in hip hop, with more than 1,900 samples and more than 200 covers.
