Glenwood Cemetery began in 1901 after nearby Evergreen Cemetery had begun to run out of burial space, when local undertaker Christopher Rotzien purchased land adjacent to St. Joseph Cemetery. That same year, the Eeds family purchased plots there, and Margaret Ann Eeds was interred in April 1901 as the first person buried in Glenwood Cemetery. In 1902, the Beeville Cemetery Association bought the land. Those buried there include the sister of Texas author J. Frank Dobie and veterans of various wars beginning with the Spanish-American War, and burials have included Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish persons. The cemetery originally measured five and a half acres and was first divided into 120 lots measuring 40 by 40 feet, then subdivided into 480 separate 20 by 20 feet lots. It expanded in later years, gaining ten additional acres in 1920, and underwent expansions and renovations in the 1960s and 1970s and through more recent efforts. Today it remains in use under the management of the Beeville Cemetery Association, landscaped with oak and cedar trees, with grave markers made of concrete, granite, ceramic photographs, and wood, alongside some original intact gravestones that are unmarked and undated.
